As we all get older, there are bound to be more kids at the raft trip. Of
course, some times it's hard to tell kids that are chronically-challenged,
from those of us that are just having fun. But that is what makes the raft
trip fun.

People return from all over the country for the raft trip, and beer is one
way to share a bit of home with our friends. Of course, the big breweries are
everywhere, so what's the point of bringing their beer. (Besides, it doesn't
taste as good.) Instead, beer from microbreweries and even home brew have become
a central part of the raft trip.
The 1993 raft trip was significant for being the first year that beer was
brewed at the campsite. Ed Bronson brought the fixings and brewed a special
one-week ale for the crowd.
Ed Bronson proved that you can brew beer almost anywhere, by bringing his
equipment to the campground and brewing five gallons of homebrew for consumption
the evening before the raft trip. Heat was provided by a hickory wood fire. He
then cooled everything off and fermented the beer (on ice, to keep it cool in
the July heat) for five days.

The kids are asleep, the campfire is roaring, and the pants come down.
It's a raft trip tradition. For better or worse, it's tradition. It goes
something like this (shouted by the crowd):
- Stand Up!
- Turn Around!
- Bend Over!
- Thank You!
There are two organized campfires. The night before the trip down the river
there are skits, the river virgin ceremony (sacrificing an old shoe to the river
gods and inducting the new river virgins), the announcement of the raft
assignments and a good time. The night after the raft trip is time to review the
great rapids and water fights, more skits, and more good times.
