The GSP raft trip is always a long weekend. That gives plenty of time
for exploring the area. Don Wegeng provided these photographs of side trips
taken in 1994.
Carnifax Ferry Battle Ground State Park is the site of a civil war memorial,
but for GSPs it means access to the Gauley River and the Lost Paddle rapid.
The National Park Service has a wonderful visitors center overlooking the New
River Gorge. The gorge pictures below were taken from the overlook, looking
upstream.

One of the biggest parks in the area is the Monongahela National Forest:

Finally, GSPs have discovered a wonderful swimming hole on the Meadow
River. And sometimes, you just need to hang around camp and relax.
